Jesus tells the parable of the mustard seed.  He says that faith and the kingdom of God is like a mustard seed; it is the smallest type of seed, but when planted and nurtured it can grow into a great tree.  The mustrad seed is like our faith. Even the ones with small faith can grow and be great.

Have you ever experienced little faith growing into a greater faith, in you or in someone else?

Here’s some details on the project that you will need to present at the May 17th meeting:

It will need to be 600 words, or a short powerpoint presentation, or a short video.  You can be creative, that will be mroe enjoyable for the whole team.

You will need to touch on these issues in Vancouver

  • poverty: where is it, what is it, who is it affecting
  • homelessness: who is homeless, why are they
  • programs and ministries to help people affected
  • the development in vancouver: where has it been, where is vancouver going in terms of helping people who are in need

The bonus questions will decide who gets to ride shotgun to start the trip and pick the first music that is played:

  1. Who is Stomping Tom and why is he awesome?
  2. What is your favorite Stomping Tom song?
  3. What are the snowbirds?
  4. Who are snowbirds?
  5. How did Tim Horton die?
  6. Tim Horton is James’ 5th cousin.  T or F
  7. How many points did Wayne Gretzky score in his career?
  8. Spell the last letter of the alphabet.  in Canadian.
  9. Write a sentence with the word “eh” in it.  Must be used correctly.

Holly Says, I think it means that Christians plant seeds in people all around us whether we know we are or not and then those seeds in people grow into great Christians and as they grow in their faith they plant seeds in other people also.  And when it is ripe and the harvest has come means that Jesus takes all of his followers with him to Heaven.  And the seed is like the knowledge of Jesus. Like the seed we plant in people is basically us telling them about Jesus.  I think this is a great verse for us to read and think about because we will be planting those seeds in Vancouver and we should be planting them here in Albany also all the time. Each seed planted is potentially one more Christian.  And we need to be aware of what we are doing all the tie because we may never know when exactly we are planting those seeds.

Do you know when you are planting seeds in people?  Are they good seeds or bad seeds?

Don’t use a fork to eat soup.

There is nothing that we keep in that wont eventually come out.  So be true and honest.  If you hear gossip about someone be sure you use good judgement on what to do with it.  Not spreading it.

If God told you something very important about someone what you you do?

I think I can relate to the seed that is sown on rocky places, hear the word at once receive it with joy.  But since they have no root, they last only a short time.  This is almost like kids at church camp.  They get all hyped up on God for a week- then go home living the dirty lives they were living before.  This is because they haven’t built a strong relationship with God because they don’t read the Bible, it’s  week long superficial relationship.  Not to say that my relationship is superficial, but I tend to get so caught up in other activities, that God is put on the back burner.  I want to change this habit and start to build a deeper relationship with God so I can hear the word, receive it, and act upon it.

Which seed are you: the seed along the path, the seed on the rocky places, the seed sown among the thorns, or the seed sown on good soil?

In this story Jesus mother and brothers come to see him.  People were sitting around Jesus and told him his family had come.  Jesus asked, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”  He said “that whoever does God’s will is my family!”

I think its amazing that Jesus was so focused on his workd for god that his family took back seat.  Often times I wonder how often Jesus and is disappointed in me because I put other things ahead of His work in my life.  If Jesus didn’t have the right priorities he never would have went to the cross for us. I think God wants to use us in amazing ways but we never get the chance because we don’t put him first in our lives.

What does it mean to put God first in our lives?

I think this is saying that, although we are supposed to keep the Sabbath, we should not keep it if it is going to become burdensome to ourselves.

“ ‘Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?’ ”

Jesus was explaining that an exception of the Sabbath was made for David and his men because of their extreme hunger. The same goes for when Jesus healed the man with the shriveled hand on the Sabbath.

“ ‘Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?’ ”

Although it was the Sabbath, Jesus still healed the man. He needed to be healed, and the fact that it was the Sabbath should not change that. There are some exceptions to the law of the Sabbath, but the Pharisees were looking for a reason to kill Jesus, so they looked past the exception.

What do you think? Are there exceptions to keeping the Sabbath? Or do you believe that it should always be kept, no matter the situation?

This is the story where four men make a hole in a roof and lower down a paralyzed man and then Jesus heals him.  I have always heard this story in Sunday school, but I never realized that Jesus was questioned and then healed the man.

How would you feel if you were one of the people that questioned Jesus and then he showed you up in front of all those people?

Jesus healed the many that had diseases or were demon posessed. When Jesus went out for alone timeSimon came to get hom and told him people were looking for him.  Jesus replied “let us go somewhere else to the nearby village so I can preach to them.”

How would people’s lives on  earth be different if Jesus walked around healing those in need, in todays time?

Are you ready to become fishers of men?
